Digital Switch Over

The Glasgow switch Date is the 8th of June 2011

on_air_aerialThe new digital television service in the UK will be fully operational by 2012 and the old analogue system will shut down.  At present both systems are available as only the main transmitters are digital and the local relay transmitters are analogue; this will end after switchover when all transmitters will be digital.

Old aerial installations will not be able to receive any television channels at all without at least upgrading their present system with a basic digital top box. To record programs while watching another channel a more expensive digital recorder will be needed but this does also incorporate the digital top box.

Television aerials will also need to be checked for their suitability for digital transmissions, internal aerials are more likely to encounter problems.  In the case of shared aerial systems the landlord will need to be consulted to ensure digital TV can be received after the switchover.
